Medicine & Physiotherapy - NEPAL
Our Medicine & Physiotherapy project

Why Medicine & Physiotherapy Nepal?

The views and scenery in Nepal are breathtaking. Look up and you will see Mount Everest and Annapurna alongside jungles which teem with exotic wildlife. The country is equally rich in terms of heritage, it being the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a majestic Hindu kingdom. Amazingly, followers of each faith peacefully share the stunning temples.

Our office is in the capital, Kathmandu. This ancient city is a wild mixture of culture and traditions. Men in business suits and auto-rickshaws jostle for position with chattering monkeys and meandering cows amongst the labyrinth of bustling streets.

Medical Volunteering in Nepal

Situated in the centre of Kathmandu, our volunteers assist Nepal's only free orthopaedic treatment centre. They also work in the famous Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children (HRDC), in the small town of Banepa. HRDC is a facility which aims to help children with disfigured limbs, severe burns or other disabilities recover and lead as normal a life as possible.

Why Volunteer in a Medical Placement?

The medical projects we organise provide our volunteers with an incredibly interesting and eye opening experience. They are able to observe how the medical process works in a developing country, and more than that, they are actively involved in it.

Those who are looking to study medicine at university will find that by shadowing doctors and watching medical procedures they will learn a great amount on a placement and gain experience that would simply not be possible in their home country. The project is also open to elective students and depending on their level of experience it may be possible to assist on a practical level.

The doctors and nurses with whom the volunteers work really enjoy the cultural exchange that is brought by the volunteers and are more than happy for you to be involved in most aspects of their work in the hospital. This placement should be used as a wonderful opportunity to question doctors who are very willing to share their expertise and knowledge.
